The film features Emma, a charming 17 year old recovering anorexic, and her parents, Virginia and John. Emma and her parents talk openly and sincerely about her struggle with anorexia and her recovery process.

"When Food Becomes an Obsession: Overcoming Eating Disorders" also features insight from Susanna Feder, a recovered bulimic who is now a psychologist and counselor. Ms. Feder reads candid, sobering passages from her diary which intimately describe her feelings and in making herself "become alive" again.
